DEATH and MOZART
The composer’s last year in words and music

At the beginning of 1791 Mozart’s creative energy is undimmed and he is manically composing – debts are mounting and his wife’s medical bills need to be paid. So when Death turns up to claim him, it’s no surprise that Mozart is too busy. A temporary reprieve only gives him more time to compose. And these new works seem to hint that he’d quite like to be the exception to the universal rule… Death, however, has other ideas.

This wrangling dialogue between Death and Mozart, freely adapting Mozart’s own letters, is interwoven with the exquisite choral music of what turns out to be Mozart’s last year: The Magic Flute, Clemenza di Tito and his uncompleted Requiem.

Performed by Medici Choir
with Brandenburg Sinfonia
Conducted by David Gostick
Featuring Soloist Luci Briginshaw

The Baird Bursary

The Baird Bursary has been set up in memory of our previous long-standing Music Director John Baird & his wife Penny who devoted so much of their time and expertise towards making Medici Choir the successful friendly choir that it is today.

We offer a £150 grant payable termly plus free membership, musical scores if necessary, and 2 free tickets for each performance.

Opportunities for solo singing may be possible at our MD David Gostick’s discretion.

We would give preference to tenor or bass voices, but any voice part is welcome to apply. In return successful applicants would be required to attend regularly each term and to sing in concerts.

If an applicant is interested in joining us, an informal audition with our Music Director would take place at Crown Court (our rehearsal venue).

Please email us for more information, or to let us know if you would like to come along to a rehearsal to find out more!
